SEIKO SPEEDTIMER 6139-7010

‘ICEBERG’

Among the assortment of 6139 caliber chronographs made, there are a few that standout in the crowd. Of the few standouts, the 6139-7010 “Iceberg” is a standout, among the standouts.

Produced only 1970, the 7010/7011 reference at a time was a watch shrouded in lore. More specifically, it was speculated these watches were never made available for sale to the public, as it was presumed to only made for various Japanese tactical divisions such as the Japanese Air Self Defense Force, or Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force, AKA: The JASDF and JMSDF respectively. It is now known that the watches assigned to these entities had a special caseback, indicating the division they were assigned to. Still however, it is a watch that is debated which makes it all the more interesting.

The previously mentioned details only really apply to the more commonly seen black dial variant of the 7010/7011. What we have on offer currently is a dial variant known as the “Iceberg” which is thought to have been produced in smaller quantities. It is a watch that is tied to all the history and speculation, but remains a niche dial variant that differentiates itself in it’s own right; A true connoisseur’s watch.

To top things off, this watch is in exceptional condition. The case brushing is still prominent, showing no signs of polishing in the past. Dial is pristine, un-marked and untouched. Lume plots are round and puffy. Handset immaculate and sweeping seconds vibrant orange as it should be. The original bracelet also in fantastic condition.
