SEIKO 6139-6010
‘JDM BRUCE LEE’
Whether choosing to include a 6139 into one’s collection based on the movement’s historical significance, or for some of Seiko’s 1970’s staple aesthetic, a 6139-6010 “Bruce Lee” will check both of the aforementioned boxes, and then some. Aside from being the (or one of the) first automatic chronograph movements available, the 6139-6010 offers a unique lore tied to it as well. This being the fact that world famous martial artist and film star Bruce Lee had owned one of these watches. What makes it a bit more special is that it wasn’t a choice made by the wardrobe team for one of his films, but is well documented and believed he had owned one of these by choice.
This JDM Speedtimer variant is in excellent condition. Its matte black dial is pristine, displaying deeply saturated Speedtimer and 5 Sports text. The dial also reads “Water 70 Proof”, indicating it was one of the first 6139’s available. The top case brushing is still prominently intact, as are the polished bevels and edges. The crown and pushers are original, and the action on the pushers is firm and crisp.
The 6139A movement was serviced in late 2020 and still keeping good time, running at ±10 seconds. The watch will come on an original, reference-correct Seiko 5 Sports “Tri-Hinge” bracelet, with 2 additional links for added size if necessary.
