SEIKO 6138-3000
‘JDM JUMBO’
The Seiko 6138-8000 is commonly referred to as the “Jumbo” due to its at the time large dimensions. It is a reference that was made available worldwide, with many different language variations for the day display and a couple different bracelet options, depending on the region of the world of course.
The example on hand here is a JDM version of the reference, with the jewel count (seen just underneath) the Kanji day display being the two aesthetically differing factors from a “standard” 6138-8000. It’s understood that the JDM variants of the Jumbo were predominantly produced for or in the year 1972, with nearly every example encountered dating to that year.
Condition wise this watch is very well preserved, harbouring only common hairline scratches and micro- nicks throughout the case. The dial and handset are pristine as is the newly installed NOS OEM crystal. The movement and chronograph functions are performing well and a full service was done in March of 2022.
