LONGINES ULTRA-CHRON 8317
The Longines Ultra-Chron name appeared on many different watches throughout the mid-1960’s though the 1970’s. Most of them featured bold design cues that were true to the times, such as the Ultra-Chron bolt moniker present above 6 o’clock and carved block-style hour markers.
This reference 8317’s 1970’s groove is toned down by its cool matte grey dial. Coming in at a very wearable 35mm diameter, its svelte case design paired with a beautiful silky mesh bracelet makes this watch not only easy to look at but very charming to wear, too. The case itself is in fantastic condition, with just a small nick near the crown. The crystal has a small scratch near 8 o’clock and 11 o’clock, but overall, in good standing condition. The dial and handset are in pristine condition, showing very little signs of wear.
Longines caliber 431 was only produced for a short period, between the mid-1960’s and early 1970’s. This was their first movement to beat away at 36,000bph, a true ‘Hi-Beat’ and made for a very smooth sweep of the second’s hand. Although service status is unknown, this high-power movement is doing just fine, running at ±10 seconds with a strong 232 amplitude.
