SEIKO SPORTSMAN
‘DOLPHIN’
At first glance, this watch may not reflect what is written on the top half of the dial. However there is a little bit of truth behind the Sportsman name.
On top of having drilled lugs, what mainly supports the Sportsman moniker is a rubber gasket applied to the caseback in order to provide some level of water resistance, as indicated on the caseback that reads “water protected”. As well, the movement was intended to be a no-frills, robust piece of machinery ready to endure whatever was thrown its way. When paired with, lets say, a beads of rice bracelet, one would have an interesting counter point to what would be considered a “sports watch”.
However despite Seiko’s intent and it’s features, it makes for one beautiful dress watch. The proportions, wonderful case shape, and ultra clean dial are highlights of its true identity. Regarding it’s condition, the case is fully polished to a wonderful shine, with beveled edges running the length of the case, which is free of any major nicks or scratches. The dial is pristine and mountain handset in near perfect condition, as are the indicies. Caseback is in good condition with everything still visible. Crown operates as it should. The crystal is free of any noticeable scratches or damage.
The movement was serviced in September 2020 and still keeping excellent time.
