The Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark III was introduced in 1971 and ceased production in 1974/75. The later versions from mid-1972 and 1973 onward featured “professional” and “automatic” text on the dials placing this example here from that period of the 1970’s. With a subtle glance, an enthusiast can easily attest to the validity of the previous statement. The Mark III is all things 70’s, with its ‘helmet’ case design, bold colour palette and its big, also bold size.

Alongside it’s 1970’s spirit, the Mark III is also renown for its use of the caliber 1040 movement, being the first automatic movement used in a Speedmaster Professional model. Its collected design offshoots and brand firsts have made the Mark III a standout reference amongst Speedmaster Professional watches.

Overall this watch is in good condition. The case shows its age by way of its blemishes and scratches. Its upper portion has also seen some polishing in the past. The dial is excellent as are the crystal and handset. At some point, this watch was also gifted to a very lucky someone for their 21st birthday, noted by the French engraving on the case back that reads “21 ans, Ray et Liliane”, which translates to “21 years old, Ray and Liliane” adding a bit of character and wonder to this example.
